Recipe

1
Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. A deep 11 x 7-inch dish works well, but you can also use a 13 x 9-inch dish.
2
Heat olive oil in a large skilled over medium-high heat. Sauté onion until just tender, about 5 min. Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink.
3
Drain fat from skillet. Stir in spaghetti sauce and season with salt & pepper, to taste.
4
Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain.
5
Add cooked spaghetti and 1 cup of the shredded cheese to the meat sauce and stir.
6
Pour into baking dish. Top with remaining ½ cup shredded cheese.
7
Bake, covered (foil is fine to use), for about 25 min. Uncover; bake until cheese is bubbly, 5-10 min. longer.

Ingredients

2 tspolive oil
1 package (8 ounces)spaghetti
1 lbground beef
1 smallonion, chopped
1 tspgarlic powder (to taste)
3 cupsjar spaghetti sauce (a typical 24 ounce jar)
1/2 tspsalt
1/4 tsppepper
1-1/2 cupsshredded cheddar cheese

Tips for this Recipe

  • My Aunt Joan always used cheddar cheese both in the mix and as a topping. That’s what gives it a uniquely — and delicious — Midwestern twist.
  • Serve this dish with a simple side salad and garlic bread.
